Issue #37 - October 2020
Dear Readers,
October! It’s one of my favorite months. This year we aren’t sure what is happening with trick or treating, but we are going to dress up: as a family pumpkin patch!
I am going to be a garden gnome (complete with a mushroom shaped purse!) and Ori is going to be a pumpkin. Luke is yet to be decided, so I will keep you posted. Actually, we got Ori's costume a week ago, and he didn't want to take it off for a whole day. Already it needs a wash!
It’s certainly hard to focus of late, but I have found that Ori keeps me distracted in the right ways.
He is learning language at an unbelievable rate. And the cute mix ups and funny phrases are really adorable. For example, we went for a hike to some rapids recently and I said, “When we get there we will see rapids. They are a bit scary and dangerous, so make sure you hold my hand.”
When we got there (5 km in, which is a long way for a little guy!), he took my hand. “I hold Mama’s hand. Scary bunny rabbits!” He thought the rapids were rabbits! You still can’t convince him otherwise.
I think he is really a lot more interesting than me, that’s for certain! I have been working and writing a lot on a variety of projects.
I have this GORGEOUS cover for a new book. It's called the Secret Fawn and it's coming out in the new year, with Tundra Books. It's illustrated by Elly MacKay. She works with cut paper and light in the most unbelievable ways. You can check out some more of her work here.
I promise to tell you lots more about this book in the coming months, and maybe try and interview Elly too. It's based on a true story when I was growing up, except my story is a little more scary and this is a really gentle book.
I'm wondering what kids are reading right now to keep themselves going. What are you reading right now? I ordered a few books myself, including this cool looking graphic novel series: Witch Hat Atelier.
xx
